Comments for the student: Standard advice I am giving across the board is that standard professionalism including eye contact and preparedness will go a long way in your current and future job searches! Thanks for the time, Tyler. As we talked about being confident in what the job entails and how you will succeed in the position and contribute to the company are key differentiators when interviewing. Don't be afraid to speak with confidence to sell yourself to a position, that is what you are expected to do in an interview. When possible connect your attributes such as organization, strong communication, collaborative, etc. to real examples of when you've applied and benefit from them.
Comments for faculty: Tyler was prepared for the interview with a job in mind but lacked the ability to sell himself confidently and connect the dots between the position, his experience, and qualifications. When asked about the job he simply read the JD, hindering his ability to truly understand that job and WHY he would be a good fit.
